Intermediate Ice Climbing - ICE201 - back to course listing

This one day course assumes some experience on ice – you have done some toproping, you know your knots, you may have some of your own equipment, but are looking for what to buy next – if you have caught the ice climbing bug and are ready for the next step, this course is for you!

This one-day intermediate level course is for climbers who have taken our basic course or have previous, multi pitch, climbing experience.  You should already be familiar with anchors, belaying, knots, and equipment to get the most out of this day.
Topics of the day will include protection and anchor placement, multi pitch rappelling techniques, rope management and belay techniques, route planning, and basic rescue. After completing this intensive day, climbers should be capable of moving on to setting up their own topropes and safely seconding the longer routes in the area.  And –almost most importantly – you will learn to assess for yourself someone else's anchors you may be climbing on.

Sunrise Adventures provides all technical gear. Course size is limited to four climbers with one guide. Participants should feel comfortable carrying a 20 lb pack for a 2 mile walk.  Meet at the Sunrise Café in Jeffersonville at 8 am for a gear check and outfitting. Course participants will need to provide a small day pack and appropriate clothing for a day outdoors (synthetic underwear and outerwear, technical gloves), a snack, and water (NO Camelbaks – they freeze!).  A camera is highly recommended!
